Manuela Villa from our Fundraising Committee, will represent NEACOL at

Tikso 2025, Makaia’s annual event.

Since 2019, Tikso has brought together over 9,000 participants to foster dialogue among various sectors about the role of international cooperation and

technology in driving social change. 

NEACOL is supporting three organizations in Colombia this year:

Instituto para Niños Ciegos y Sordos (Cali)

Fundación Patronato María Auxiliadora (Medellín)

MedicalTeams International (Cali, Turbo, and Necoclí)

This year’s proposal theme is "Education for Well-being", with a focus on strengthening the socio-emotional development of children and youth.

The Projects Committee received 53 applications from organizations across Colombia, with 14 advancing to the second round. The committee is currently reviewing and scoring them to determine which ones will move to the final stage.

While in Medellin In July, NEACOL's Margarita Escallón interviewed Fundación Patronato María Auxiliadora Executive Director Natalia Misas and Ana María Bernal, volunteer and member of their Board of Directors. They spoke about their organization and how NEACOL's support this year has positively impacted their mission.

Thanks to your support, NEACOL is proud to highlight the impressive progress of the NUTRISENTI Project at the Instituto para Niños Ciegos y Sordos in Cali, Colombia. 

Between January and March, the program served 123 children (surpassing the original goal of 102), delivering more than 7,000 tailored meals and feeding plans. An additional 20 children received extra support after being identified as undernourished. Beyond food assistance, NUTRISENTI is educating caregivers, creating inclusive menus and Braille recipe books, monitoring children’s progress, and training professionals in inclusive care.

On Saturday, August 2, we gathered for our Summer Outing at the gorgeous Cotuit home of Marta and Akram Rafla. The setting was beautiful, the weather was perfect, and the company was even better! Mauricio, Juan, and Julio worked their magic on the grill, serving up a feast for everyone to enjoy.

Dr. Pedro Pablo Perea

On Monday, July 28, Dr. Pedro Pablo Perea, Director of the Instituto para Niños Ciegos y Sordos de Cali visited Perkins School for the Blind in Boston.

This visit was made possible thanks to the efforts of Mónica Pinzón and NEACOL, who facilitated the connection with Perkins, and to Santiago López and Julie Norris for welcoming and assisting Dr. Perea during his visit.

On Sunday, June 22, NEACOL hosted the "Singing Dreams Recital" at the First Parish of Watertown, featuring the talents of Colombian pianist Héctor Bonilla and tenor

David Rivera, a beloved figure in the New England community. The program included arias from Verdi’s "Rigoletto" to renditions of Colombian songs like “La Piragua”

On Tuesday, June 3, volunteers gathered at Maria Claudia Aguirre and Julio Mantilla's home for a workshop with Aixa Beauchamp of Beauchamp & Associates Consulting.

Aixa led a philanthropic night, sharing actionable fundraising and grant tactics to strengthen every committee. We are very grateful for her generosity.

On Saturday, May 10, we kicked off spring with a Volunteer Cookout in East Falmouth, hosted by Marcela Danesh and Dominick Costanzo. A few sprinkles tried to crash the party, but the sun came out and it turned into a perfect afternoon!

On Sunday, April 20, NEACOL was honored with a Recognition Award by Club Colombia, a student organization at Boston University, during their "Viva Colombia 2025" celebration.

This award highlights NEACOL’s ongoing commitment to supporting and promoting Colombian values in Massachusetts.
