It is that time of year again. Calendars are full, communities are gathering, and events are everywhere. But today, I want to focus on one type of event — the kind that does not exist to entertain, impress, or trend online. The kind that exists to make a real impact.

NEACOL (New England Association for Colombian Children), an organization I have had the honor of serving as a volunteer, is preparing for its annual fundraising event. The mission is clear and urgent: to fund programs that support children in Colombia living in vulnerable conditions.

Behind every donation, every ticket, every sponsorship, there is something deeper: A child who gains access to education, safety, or health care — because someone chose to care.
