NEACOL Board Co-Chairs

Farewell letter from founding chairman - Javier Romero

Javier Romero M.D.

NEACOL and "Entornos Protectores"

NEACOL welcomed a group of young Colombian athletes to Boston last week. The young athletes are the members of the official sub 17 ultimate Frisbee team of Antioquia, Colombia participating in a sports exchange in the United States. This trip to the USA has been carried out as part of the efforts made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia and the Government of Antioquia in order to prevent kids and youngsters to become part of the armed conflict in Colombia.

These teenagers begun playing ultimate Frisbee 3 years ago, when the Government of Antioquia (Colombia) created the program “Ultimate Frisbee Protective Environment”, a social initiative that has been implemented in different towns reaching around 2830 boys, girls and teenagers vulnerable to become part of illegal groups. The main goal of this project is to keep youngsters away from drugs and crime.

NEACOL proudly support this type of initiative because we believe when children vulnerable to social violence are given the right opportunity and the motivation they need, they will become successful contributors to society.

The team participated as special guests at the Needham Frisbee Summer Season Opening at Defazio Park on June 22 in Needham, MA where they played a friendly game with local Needham Frisbee fun. We want to thank the Colombia Consulate in Boston for their support and the Needham Frisbee Club for facilitating the space to carry out this special event!
